Accessibility at Belonging Before Barriers

Belonging Before Barriers is committed to creating a website and communication experience that is clear, welcoming and accessible to as many people as possible.

We recognise that people access, understand and interact with information in different ways. We aim to consider communication, sensory, processing and participation preferences throughout the design and development of our website, services and community activities.

What we are working towards

BBB is working towards alignment with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, WCAG 2.2 Level AA.

The BBB website has not yet undergone a formal accessibility assessment. We are continuing to review and improve the website as content and features are developed.

Our accessibility approach

BBB aims to support access by:

  • Using clear headings and logical page structures

  • Using plain, direct and respectful language

  • Maintaining readable colour contrast

  • Providing meaningful descriptions for important images

  • Avoiding unnecessary animation, visual clutter and flashing content

  • Making forms understandable and identifying required fields

  • Supporting keyboard navigation wherever the website platform allows

  • Providing communication and participation choices

  • Avoiding requests for unnecessary diagnostic or medical information

  • Offering information in another practical format where reasonably possible

Only include features that are genuinely present or actively being implemented.

Please Note

BBB is still developing and reviewing the website. Some visual cards contain text within images, which may not be fully accessible to screen-reader users. We are working to provide equivalent written content and meaningful alternative text alongside important visuals.

Some documents or third-party forms may not yet provide the same level of accessibility as the main website. If you encounter a barrier, please contact BBB so we can explore another way to provide the information or receive your contribution.

Ask for another format

If information on this website is difficult to access, you can ask whether it is available in another practical format.

Possible alternatives may include:

  • Plain text

  • A Word document

  • A simplified version

  • Information provided by email

  • A written summary

  • A conversation

  • Additional time to review or respond
